Technologies for a Sustainable Storage of Carbon Dioxide in Geological Formations I

Between April 2005 and July 2008 the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supported several projects within the GEOTECHNOLOGIEN key area "Geological Storage of Carbon Dioxide":

  • Benchmark - Numerical investigation of CO2 sequestration in geological formations - problem-oriented benchmarks
  • CDEAL - Carbon dioxide elimination by using acid mine lakes and calcium oxide suspensions
  • CHEMKIN - Real-time observation of the chemical and kinetic behaviour of carbon dioxide during geological sequestration
  • CO2-TRAP - Development and Evaluation of Innovative Strategies for Mineral and Physical Trapping of CO2 in Geological Formations and of Long-Term Cap Rock Integrity
  • CO2-USG-RISK - Assessment of the Long-Term Risk and Sustainability of Underground Storage of CO2 in Germany Current Practises, Future R&D Needs and Development of Methodologies
  • CO2CRS - High-resolution images of subsurface CO2 storage sites in time and depth by the CRS methodology
  • COSMOS - CO2 Storage, Monitoring and Safety Technology
  • CSEGR - Feasibility Study on the Potential of CO2 Storage for Enhanced Gas Recovery in Mature German Gas Reservoirs
  • RECOBIO - Recycling of sequestrated CO2 by microbial-Biogeochemical transformation in the deep subsurface

The areas "Innovative Prospecting Technologies" and "Technologies for a sustainable Storage of Carbon Dioxide in Geological Formations" represent the Key Research Area Investigation, Use and Protection of the Underground
