Global Climate Change

The global climate system is unique amongst the solar system. Furthermore, it is the fundamental requirement for the evolution of live on Earth.

The climate has shown significant changes over Earth's history, with almost sudden changes from warm to cold conditions (only centuries or even decades). Archaeological findings show, that human and cultural evolution was strongly related to these changes.

The reasons for natural climate changes are complex and driven even by geological events like volcanoes and plate tectonics. To understand the feedback systems between geology and climate, GEOTECHNOLOGIEN supported a variety of interdisciplinary research, notably within the DEKLIM project (funded until 2006).
