Exhibitions
The direct dialogue with the public is a major challenge of modern science. Right next to the publication of informative brochures and flyers, exhibitions are one of the most effective tools of public outreach.
In 2002 - the German Year of Geosciences - the R&D-Programme presented the travelling exhibition Forschungsdialog System Erde (Science in Dialogue: System Earth). In venues like shopping malls, town halls and governmental buildings all over Germany, a multi-media terminal and awesome exhibits informed about the daily scientific routine and about spectacular insights into the System Earth. Within an additional project of "Forschungsdialog System Erde", educational materials where developed - and tested on visiting student groups.
In 2004 and 2005 the roving exhibition In die Tiefe gehen (Going Underground) was presented at six location throughout Germany - Stuttgart, Dortmund, Leipzig, Munich, Berlin and Bremerhaven. "In die Tiefe gehen" presented an historic as well as an high-tech look into underground monitoring technologies.
In 2008 the co-ordination office GEOTECHNOLOGIEN was in the fortunate position to show - in co-operation with the French museum Vulcania - the photo-exhibition ELEMENTS in Germany. The exhibition, featuring volcano photographs Katia and Maurice Krafft, was shown in Germany for the first time ever. Venues have been Krefeld, Bad Dürrenberg and Chemnitz.
From September 2006 until October 2009 the co-ordination office managed the travelling exhibition Unruhige Erde (Restless Earth). This exhibition accompanied the research key area "Early Warning Systems Against Natural Hazards".
